Demand justice from BART for its role in the murder of Oscar Grant

Fed up with BART's lack of accountability in the murder of Oscar Grant, people plan on shutting down the transit system through non-violent civil disobedience on April 8, activists say.

More info:
Moments before BART police officer Johannes Mehserle shot and killed unarmed Oscar Grant on the Fruitvale BART in Oakland on New Year's Day 2009, BART officer Tony Pirone put his knee into Grant's neck and called him a "Bitch Ass Nigger." Although this was known to BART and the Alameda County District Attorney's office, Pirone has neither been disciplined, fired or charged for his role, activists say. He has been on paid leave since the shooting.

The action will begin on the Embarcadero BART station platform in San Francisco at 4 p.m. on April 8. Organizers encourage passengers who normally ride BART during the afternoon rush to join the action or to make alternate transportation plans.
